A haiku a day...

Vendredi
New velvet soil bed
for your overgrown roots: grow
little sickly plant!

Samedi
Bobbing in the sea,
silent we float amongst waves,
then laughter erupts.

Dimanche
The wheels go around,
we glide along, the world flies
by, as we zoom free.

Lundi
Third floor balcony,
the geranium lady
nods, solitary.

Mardi
Sinking in the bath,
anxiety bubbles up,
cold, I soak in it.

Mercredi
"you'll never finish!"
l'oiseau de mauvaise augure
screeches in my ear.

Jeudi
Dancing wild, singing
at the tops of our voices,
Lovin' life tonight.

A haiku a day...

Vendredi
As the lillies wilt,
their petals quietly fall,
I know how they feel.

Samedi
Here, amongst the green,
on thistle spikes, hornets hum
a dangerous dirge.

Dimanche
Refreshing ocean
cools my pale English skin, wave
after wave roars in.

Lundi
A daily ritual:
swinging creaky shutters shut
to silence night noise.

Mardi
The warm breeze whispers
unintelligible thoughts
as I wander home.

Mercredi
As we lick ice-cream,
across the square, over there
a man plays with fire.

Jeudi
Frightened, I drag a
chair outside, take up refuge
on the terrace, hide.

A haiku a day...

Friday
Alone on the beach,
Just me and the sea, pounding
along the shoreline.

Saturday
One face looks forward,
one behind, but i'm still blind,
to present dangers.

Sunday
In a dark place here,
shed a tear for auld lang syne,
unhappy new year.

Monday
Twilight once again,
right on time, down by the bridge,
cautious deer emerge.

Tuesday
Outside a storm brews,
invisible angry winds,
hold us hostage here.

Wednesday
Sunrise streaks beside
Scottish shores, pink light dances,
fluorescent magic.

Thursday
I pitter patter
all about our happy flat,
Home sweet home is here.

A haiku a day...

It's been a bit of a quiet week for me on here as I spent last weekend away in the far reaches of Scotland and have been trying to catch up on work and sleep ever since I got back. Despite the lack of any other words on these here pages, I have a few extra haikus this week as Sunday was a very long and inspiring day spent walking along a beautiful Scottish beach. I spotted oystercatchers and black-headed gulls galore, picnic-ed on a cliff-side over-looking a secret bay, skipped around at the waves' edge like an excited child, collected shells and feathers, admired the pretty boats bobbing in the harbour, managed not to get blown away in the wind, stared in awe at some nutter kite-surfing on the wild waves, walked through a yellowing forest at sunset, spotted some deer on the horizon, sat in the prettiest, cosiest summerhouse in all the land admiring the many trinkets which adorn its ceilings, walls and windows and keeping warm by the light of many candles and blankets, stroked a beautiful cat, played scrabble and ate my weight in macaroni cheese. I couldn't limit all that inspiration into just seventeen syllables or even just words, so here are my haikus and some photos to accompany. Enjoy...

Friday

Sunrise, train ride (slow)
Grey rainy streets of Glasgow,
Later the drinks flow.

Saturday
A glimpse of a fox,
As the train zooms through hayfields,
Sly sunset surprise.

Sunday
(i)
Blustery beach walk
Sea spray, sandy shoes, footprints
tracing our escape.

(ii)
A sudden flurry
Of black-headed gulls, flapping
up, surrounding us.

(iii)
On the horizon,
leaping deer: grace incarnate
as they disappear.

Monday
All day on a train,
Sorry to complain but its
driving me insane.

Tuesday
Rainy afternoon,
I batten down the hatches,
Hide my face away.

Wednesday
Songs rise up, filling
the room, taking my thoughts on
a dreamy journey.

Thursday
The sky is grey, wet,
the light muted, I forget
long
summer mornings.

Upon returning home, seeing this quote made me smile....

"For whatever we lose (like a you or a me),
It's always our self we find in the sea..."
~ e.e. Cummings

I'll be back next week with more haikus and hopefully some sewing/crochet/crafty projects to share.
Enjoy your weekend - may it be full of autumn leaves, warm soups, cardigans, a good book, some nature, smiles and dreaming...

A haiku a day...

More haikus from the week that just was....

Friday

Big bright moon: spotlight
on me as i dodge traffic,
running for the bus.

Saturday
Sat on the pebbles,
gulls screech overhead, flapping,
whilst the sea waves on.

Sunday
Refreshed by sea air,
But still sleepy, i roll back
over into dreams.

Monday
Morning in the park,
Sun streams through the tree tops, a
happy burst of light.

Tuesday
Eight years with my love,
Tonight we kiss, reminisce,
Happy together.

Wednesday
Jaws ache; I wonder,
Where's the wisdom in these teeth?
I feel only pain.

Thursday
Dreaming en français,
a past life revisited:
familiar/étrange.

p.s if you enjoy reading haikus, then head over to my friend Sarah's blog, where she has started posting daily haikus :)

I needed to see the sea...

Yesterday I went day-tripping to the sea side. It was a such beautiful day. Check out that sky!

Sometimes it's good and really rather necessary to get away from London town and breathe in the sea air *sigh* happy times :)
Hope you are having a happy weekend whatever you've been doing...
