A haiku a day...

Vendredi
New velvet soil bed
for your overgrown roots: grow
little sickly plant!

Samedi
Bobbing in the sea,
silent we float amongst waves,
then laughter erupts.

Dimanche
The wheels go around,
we glide along, the world flies
by, as we zoom free.

Lundi
Third floor balcony,
the geranium lady
nods, solitary.

Mardi
Sinking in the bath,
anxiety bubbles up,
cold, I soak in it.

Mercredi
"you'll never finish!"
l'oiseau de mauvaise augure
screeches in my ear.

Jeudi
Dancing wild, singing
at the tops of our voices,
Lovin' life tonight.

A haiku a day...

Vendredi
I smell marigolds:
childhood garden scents condensed,
nostalgic perfume.

Samedi
Cicada tempo,
crazy insect jazz rythyms,
bedtime serenade.

Dimanche
Butterflies play chase,
spinning circles together
for an airborn kiss.

Lundi
Mushroom stroganoff:
too much wine in the sauce makes
for a boozy meal.

Mardi
Supermarket sweep,
miles of aisles, fill the basket,
then escape Carrefour

Mercredi
A balmy evening,
the nuns keep cool with icecream,
lick, pray, shiver, lick.

Jeudi
Lined up in the heat,
spontaneous siesta,
three peas in a pod.

A haiku a day...

Vendredi
A rainbow, cobbles
glistening after the rain,
a wine bar refuge.

Samedi
An impromptu feast,
chez nous, our little flat full -
there aren't enough forks!

Dimanche
Grass underfoot, I
am happy, the cool blades stroke
my wandering toes.

Lundi
Awake, I linger
in the sofa nest we built,
our lazy cocoon.

Mardi
Old lady in red
surveys the street stroking her
pink geraniums.

Mercredi
Guitar serenade,
in the little square where we
sip aperitifs.

Jeudi
As I run, it rains,
the hot tarmac smells damp as
my warm limbs cool down.

A haiku a day...

Vendredi
Tripod, camera,
timerswitch, a flash; the lone
photographer smiles.

Samedi
Elegant lady
in an old gold suit sweeps rose
petal confetti.

Dimanche
Quick dash to market,
gathering fruit, bread and veg,
weekly sustenance.

Lundi
My first sweetpea bloom,
soft red petal lips blowing
  a delicate kiss,

Mardi
Rows of clouds line up
filling the sky, all puff, fluff,
nothingness and rain.

Mercredi
The morning light sings
soft whispery melodies
of accomplishment.

Jeudi
We cosy ourselves
in our happy flat, watching
crap as night draws in.

A haiku a day...

Vendredi
Sparkle! Boom! Bang! Pop!
Gold worms mushroom out, explode
like fireflies dancing.

Samedi
I walk home nibbling
its crispy crust, chewy dough,
baguette on the go.

Dimanche
Snoozy afternoon,
hours dedicated to
dreaming; time goes by.

Lundi
Riverside dancer,
floats on wheels as if on air,
rollerblade ballet.

Mardi
Piles of old fabric
hide crumpled treasures, vintage
beauties to rescue.

Mercredi
Jumping we hover
mid-air as if by magic,
ridiculous fun.

Jeudi
After the monsoon
we twirl amidst puddles to
accordion songs.

A haiku a day...

Vendredi
As the lillies wilt,
their petals quietly fall,
I know how they feel.

Samedi
Here, amongst the green,
on thistle spikes, hornets hum
a dangerous dirge.

Dimanche
Refreshing ocean
cools my pale English skin, wave
after wave roars in.

Lundi
A daily ritual:
swinging creaky shutters shut
to silence night noise.

Mardi
The warm breeze whispers
unintelligible thoughts
as I wander home.

Mercredi
As we lick ice-cream,
across the square, over there
a man plays with fire.

Jeudi
Frightened, I drag a
chair outside, take up refuge
on the terrace, hide.

A haiku a day....

Here are my little word snippets from the last week...

Vendredi
Unbelievable
sky, crazy backdrop to our
happy fountain splash.

Samedi
Dappled light, green grass,
the pop of corks, a tiny
corner of heaven.

Dimanche
Cool liquid amber,
refreshing in the hot sun,
after park picnics.

Lundi
Same song, months apart,
in parallel we listen,
as the lark ascends.

Mardi
I awake to rain
glad about the gloominess,
as my nightmares wane.

Mercredi
Sticky air cooks up
cranky moods, we stumble out,
into an oven.

Jeudi
Bagpipes bellow out
Scottish songs on this French night,
Fête de la musique.

A haiku a day...

Friday
We gather around
this table, share ourselves, eat,
become family.

Saturday
Happy tears burst out,
a moment of change and love,
bright happy morning.

Sunday
The giant sky looms,
bright over the open road,
which leads me somewhere.

Monday
Take me in your arms,
I'm home after many miles,
smiles, tears and journeys.

Tuesday
My inner vortex
swirls still, as my head catches
up with my footsteps.

Wednesday
Back on a bike I
zoom along again, finding
the right momentum.

Thursday
In the perfect square,
I brush shoulders with Nancy,
my inspiration.

A haiku a day...

This week it seems I'm in the mood to write about the weather. Wet, thundery, stormy, cloudy, moody weather. Funny how a theme emerged in these syllabic snippets....

Friday
Sangria, flowers
a terrace chat in the heat,
As evening arrives.

Saturday
Finally thunder:
the drumming of a rainstorm
makes me want to dance.

Sunday
We poke our heads out
Kiss the raindrops, sniff zee fleurs,
Ridiculous rain.

Monday
Some moods can’t be fought,
embracing this dark cloud I
Leave my desk behind.

Tuesday
The river at dusk
cool, calm now before the storm,
(after the panic).

Wednesday
Cloud wisps kiss the hills
Grey sky, green horizon, me
watching the day fade.

Thursday
Waking up, the roof
is drumming sweet rhythms of
a Devon rainstorm.

A haiku a day...

Vendredi
I smile all along
my balmy evening bikeride,
pedalling happy.

Samedi
Measure, pin, snip snip,
press the peddle, the needle
whirs, dances, stitches.

Dimanche
White wisps on pale blue,
jet streams scar the perfect sky,
up where planes fly high.

Lundi
 Through open windows,
jasmine intoixicates me
on these long hot nights.

Mardi
Daily ritual:
pedalling furiously
to find inner calm.
Mercredi
It's too hot for jazz,
the melodies meander,
but I'm trapped inside.

Jeudi
Coffee, a notebook,
one of those perfect mornings,
here in summertime.

A haiku a day...

GRRR! Blogger erased the last lot of haikus I put up earlier as well! So here they are again *sigh*

Vendredi
Seeking adventures
in streets, in cafés, in bars,
in glasses of wine.

Samedi
The boulangerie
calls me, I skip along for
fresh crumbly croissants.

Dimanche
Gloomy day inside
watching films, I hide, avoid
the real world outside.

Lundi
Under the weather
again: gloomy forecasts make
for a bumpy ride.

Mardi
Night time gardening,
by the gold light of street lamps,
flowers bloom and sleep.

Mercredi
It's decision time,
will I be my worst self or
find some inner peace?

Jeudi
The scent of jasmine
fills my street, delicate soft,
sweet petals of home

A haiku a day...

Friday
Take a wander, see
what happens, maybe you'll find
ko-winky-denkies?

Saturday
Nature's pinnacle,
towering over the sea,
sandy majesty.

Sunday
Riverside picnic,
sunset, cidre, pink skies, bliss,
shiver... then we kiss.

Monday
Broad beans in salad
make me happy: bitter bursts
of fresh squidgy green.

Tuesday
Over the river
a lone kite floats, swoops and dives,
then he disappears.

Wednesday
Sometimes life feels like
a treasure hunt, I follow
my feet and find gold

Thursday
My papasan chair
is cosy and round, i curl
up like a cat, purrrrr.

A haiku a day...

Friday
The evening evolves
over cheese, wine and chatter,
we crawl home at five.

Saturday
We pitter patter,
along cobbles, lit by a
giant moon night light.

Sunday
I spy nuthatches,
birds with the best eyeliner,
fluttering round us.

Monday
I'm faint and fearful,
face down on the floor, shaking,
completely confused.

Tuesday
Cooling my hot toes
in long grass, happy daisies,
smile up at me, dance.

Wednesday
Night falls, we wander
to ponder the river as
swifts screech overhead.

Thursday
You know, il fait beau,
oui, il fait chaud à Bordeaux,
peut-être un peu trop!

And since I haven't put anything up here except haikus for weeks now, here's a bonus picture to illustrate Sunday's syllables...

A haiku a day...

Friday
Belly catches up,
send out warning signs too late,
too much on my plate!

Saturday
Soaking in the bath
to the sounds of pouring rain,
wet outside and in.

Sunday
Grouchy, tired me,
being my worst self as I
refuse sweet slumber.

Monday
Mascara hurry,
smudges appear, shouts break out
on the other side.

Tuesday
May day, lilac skies,
magical clouds float, swifts screech,
the river flows by.

Wednesday
Pre-meditation
I spy a butterfly perched
amidst my flowers.

Thursday
Erratic pixie,
swift and nimble as she plays
her magic fiddle.

A haiku a day...

Friday
Between showers we
climb up through the trees, onto
sunny spring moorland.

Saturday
Deer with a deathwish,
we swerve, he bounds away free,
into the morning.

Sunday
Breathing carefully
defeats all fears of flying,
inhale, exhale, float.

Monday
Pounding the pavements,
through puddles and relentless
pouring rain: perfect.

Tuesday
Blank page tyranny,
word documents multiply,
elusive progress.

Wednesday
Playful gusts of wind
transform my skirt into a
billowy landscape.

Thursday
The first seedling peeks
its leaves up out of the soil:
fragile alchemy.

A haiku a day...

Friday
Tiny spider hangs
on a thread from the man's head,
(he's oblivious).

Saturday
A double rainbow
so bright we all stop, delight,
at light refractions.

Sunday
Dance with me my love,
we'll defy the morning light,
and twirl round instead.

Monday
Roll over, fall back
into deep sleep, dream quickly
before day begins.

Tuesday
Splash, dash, skip and dodge,
running a rainy errand
avoiding puddles.

Wednesday
Spark, whirl, chatter, zing!
So pleased you got your groove back,
my fun frenzied friend.

Thursday
Tonight I miss you,
the way we hold each other,
a bundle of arms.

A haiku a day...

Friday
Caught in a rain storm,
Sheltering from lightning as,
puddles become rivers.

Saturday
A humming chorus
as bees pay homage to the
ephemeral blooms.

Sunday
Hanging fabric streams
in my little souk wardrobe,
living out my dreams.

Monday
Quiet on the streets,
empty for Easter but for
our foreign chatter.

Tuesday
That smell after rain,
of earth and new foliage
getting a spring clean.

Wednesday
I push seeds into
dark earth: there, magic happens,
I just have to wait.

Thursday
Blue haze, dark downpour,
the sky can't make up its mind today
so I stay inside.

A haiku a day...

Friday
Soil, seeds and pots,
we gather them all ready
for window box joy.

Saturday
Patchwork of roof tiles,
Bright sunlight; in the distance
vines are waking up

Sunday
Impromptu concert
drifts up through my window, strange
jazz rhythms, lets dance!

Monday
Boughs laden with blooms,
Peek out between market stalls,
nature meets culture.

Tuesday
My limbs are heavy,
my thoughts dulled, sleep calls me back,
dark, empty and strange,

Wednesday
Lemon, honey, thyme
infused together, fragrant
fight against the germs.

Thursday
Lovely lilac bush,
Impossible to capture
its
delicate scent.

A haiku a day...

A double portion of haikus today to get me up to date for the last two weeks...

Friday
Knitting needles click,
French chatter accelerates,
my brain’s in a whir.

Saturday
Wet whiskers, webbed feet
emerging from the river,
muskrat colony.

Sunday
In seconds, grey clouds
become rainstorms, drenching us,
before we can hide.

Monday
Cet après-midi
les heures sont longues, chaque minute
une petite souffrance.

Tuesday
Night hours bring me
apocalyptic visions,
cold sweats and no rest.

Wednesday
Banging door foretells
panic – water everywhere!
Flood emergency!

Thursday
In this town I’ve found
cobbled streets to wander round,
I have happy feet.

Friday
On two wheels I float
past everything, velo fun,
Cycling is flying.

Saturday
The cat on the lead
is an unhappy feline,
He can’t chase the birds!

Sunday
Theatre full of song
and heads thinking secret thoughts,
entranced by the strings.

Monday
Impossible tree
engraves candyfloss branches
onto my mind’s eye.

Tuesday
Out of boxes we
unearth forgotten treasures
from the before time

Wednesday
Surprising flowers,
unreal, petals everywhere
until I awake.

Thursday
French horns ring out loud,
echoing around the square,
a blast of grandeur.
